ARTIST STATEMENT

My exploration of the vessel as a metaphor for human existence has evolved from simply using the medium of a ceramic object to the inclusion of large constructions formed from transparent fabric. The surface of the fabric is hand rendered in fractal patterning that simultaneously references the exterior of the earth’s surface as well as the interior spaces of one’s being.

 

Many of the vessels are large enough to walk into. The fabric is shear so that one can see through several layers of patterning as well as beyond the walls of the container. My hope is that upon entering the installation one will experience a sense of sacred space and expanded perception.
